SQL Playground

Side Project, Learning Tools

Built as my own way to get more fluent in SQL. A realistic SaaS dataset of users, subscriptions, revenue, and events to practise the product questions that actually come up on the job. Open source, so anyone else can pick it up and use it too.

Side Project, Travel

Got tired of re-entering trip dates into a spreadsheet and redoing the 90/180 maths every time my plans shifted. So I built something that handles the recalculating for me.

My experiences

The roles that taught me how I work.

  • 2021 - 2025

    Product Manager, YouView TV

    London, United Kingdom

    • Led product discovery and delivery across core TV experiences on a national-scale platform serving millions of UK households, backed by BBC, ITV, Channel 4, BT and TalkTalk.
    • Managed complex stakeholder, regulatory and commercial constraints across major broadcasters and ISPs. Shipped into a large, demanding customer base with tight trade-offs.
  • 2020 - 2021

    Product Manager, Deskpro

    London, United Kingdom

    • Introduced a content management system for internal website management, replacing ad-hoc editorial tooling with a schema-driven flow.
    • Enhanced core helpdesk software functionality and revamped the Knowledge Base Guides feature for materially better usability and time-to-publish.
  • 2020

    Product Manager (Contract), Nutrable

    London, United Kingdom

    • Led early discovery with prospective users, validating product direction and commercial viability for an early-stage health tech startup.
    • Tested business model assumptions around pricing and revenue mechanics before committing to a build.
  • 2019 - 2020

    Product Marketer, Beamly

    London, United Kingdom

    • Defined positioning and go-to-market strategy for a CMS product targeting beauty brands. Ran stakeholder workshops to surface the real buyer problems.
    • Tested assumptions with real customers before shipping, so launch messaging landed on proven pain points rather than guesses.
  • 2012 - 2017

    Senior Analyst, PAAMCO Prisma

    London, United Kingdom

    • Led the digitisation of internal reporting and accounting processes at a hedge fund of funds. Turned spreadsheet workflows into repeatable pipelines. The work that eventually pulled me towards product.
    • Delivered tailored analytics and reporting to portfolio managers and clients.
  • 2010 - 2012

    Math Teacher, Teach For America

    Los Angeles, CA, United States

    • Taught high-school mathematics in an outcomes-driven environment. Measured, iterated, and owned the number.
    • Tracked student performance data and adapted my teaching based on measurable progress.
Romie was able to put people at ease and get the most out of consumer research interviews, drawing out valuable insights that shaped our product direction.

Nicholas Wodtke

CEO & Founder, Nutrable

High-quality work with real value considered.

My process is built to reduce uncertainty quickly and ship something real before optimism runs out. It’s less about process rigour and more about keeping the loop tight.

(01)

Discovery

I love talking to real users and the people closest to the problem. It's the fastest way to understand who's hurting and why, long before anyone writes a line of code.

(02)

Framing

The fun part is narrowing a big vague problem into the smallest bet that could actually move the number. Trade-offs get written down. Assumptions get named. Everyone knows what we're still guessing at.

(03)

Shipping

My favourite part of shipping is working closely with engineers to figure out where scope can be cut. The aim is the tightest possible MVP, the one that still teaches us something real.

(04)

Learning

The bit most people skip is the one I love most. Measuring what actually happened, talking to the people it happened to, and deciding what to drop, double down on, or leave alone. Then the loop starts again.

My numbers say it all

These numbers reflect the experience and consistency, and the measurable impact behind the work I’ve delivered over the years.
